Video Tutorials by Ross McKelvey ARPS DPAGB

11th January 2012
On Thursday 19th November Ross McKelvey ARPS demonstrated his workflow, converting a RAW image straight from the camera into Photoshop via Adobe Camera Raw. Using various techniques, plugins and masks, Ross keeps no secrets when explaining what he does and how he transforms an ordinary photo into a great image.
For those who missed Thursday night, Ross has recorded a video tutorial along the same lines as his Thursday night photoshop presentation:

Creating a mono Image
In this image, I did not get the lighting right, but I really liked the pose and the expression, with the wide eyes. A square crop seemed to suit the image, and by converting to mono and applying a fair bit of 'dodge and burn' type techniques, I was able to create what I thought was a fairly dramatic mono print, from an admittedly 'bland' starting point.

The next tutorial shows how to process a Beauty headshot, including skin softening, increased contrast, saturation of the iris, and sharpening. The 'imagenomic' plug-in for portraiture is used.

This tutorial shows a new technique for dodging and burning, using 2 duplicate layers - one in screen blending mode, and one in multiply blending mode. Dodging and burning can subtely change the emphasis in a picture.
